Tip Tuesday

If you haven't noticed I haven't been writing much lately. I would like to say that I haven't had time, and that is partly true, but the biggest reason is a lack of inspiration. I mentioned this to Grace last Saturday and we discussed a bit on where to find inspiration. I have been thinking about that ever since and so I decided I would share my thoughts.

1. Books--Josie once told me that books were supposed to be one of the best sources of inspiration. When she told me that I agreed with the idea and passed on forgetting about it. After having a very busy summer I can say that without a doubt the above is true. Whenever I would get a chance to pick up a book I would have idea's overwhelming me immediately!

2. Movies--A lot of people say this one is really important for them so I ranked it as number two. I do get idea's this way but not very often.

3. Overheard Conversations--I know this sounds funny and you're probably all thinking what an eavesdropper  I must be. Being 100% honest though, I have to admit that this is probably my number 2. People are living stories just waiting to be written about. Sometimes you can catch the most hysterical stories or at least unique ideas from simply listening to the conversation between the cashier and the person in line ahead of you!

4. Your Own Circumstances--These can be very hard to make sound interesting to others but in some ways they are easier writing material. You have actually lived them, felt the emotions, seen the actions, and reacted to the situation so in a way, you are an expert.

5. Pictures--As the old saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words". Sometimes pictures just seem to be screaming at me to write the story they are portraying. For instance the picture that hangs above my bed has been reminding me to write about that fox, triumphantly watching the hunters ride off in the distance, who is startled by a lagging horse-boy suddenly coming upon him. It begs for the painter's story to be told and someday, I intend to do it.

The above barely scraped the surface and sometimes I'm not even sure what inspired me. These are my top five sources, what are yours?
