Tip Tuesday

Does your dialogue speak?  That may sound a bit funny, but let's dig in a little deeper.  What do I mean by dialogue speaking?  If you took out all the little descriptive pieces that went along with your dialogue (i.e. she glared angrily) in one of your stories, and then read it, would you be able to tell how the character is feeling?  Does your dialogue speak?  Do you feel the emotions running right out of the words?  Now, don't get me wrong, you want to describe what your character is doing.  But at times it is unnecessary because the words have a life of their own (of course, even when it is necessary, you want your dialogue to have life).  People should be able to tell what character is feeling because of the words.  So, the next time you sit down to write, make your dialogue speak.
